Important information about these units:
All of the STS PVS-21s available here are being sold on consignment and are police-trade-in units with signs of use on the housing and hours on the tube. As such, we cannot provide any warranty on the tubes or housing. You will have a 24-hour inspection period after receiving your unit to ensure it did not arrive broken or malfunctioning, after which we reserve the right to deny any reparations.
All units will include a way to mount them to a helmet shroud, but we cannot guarantee fitment with other popular mounting systems. It does have a dovetail mount, but it is only intended for a Wilcox G21 mount, and further modification would be required to get it to fit on a G24.
An experienced night vision technician has cleaned, inspected, and tested all units to ensure proper function out of the box. We do offer night vision services for repair & cleaning if you wish to have your unit serviced with us down the line, at an additional cost.
If you cancel your order, standard policy and restocking fees apply.
About the AN/PVS-21 LPNVG
The PVS-21s was part of a wave of different designs competing in the early 2000s to be the next big thing in the night vision world. Compelling features include the much lower profile to the user's face allowing for easier passive aiming, articulating eyepieces to remove the need to stow the device when not in use, and slim thermal overlays, and the ability to accept thermal displays from other optics with an auxiliary cable.
With the "heads up display" style of seeing in the dark, some of the lost peripheral vision when using a goggle unit is regained, as you can see directly through the display without obstructions. As for how much coverage the night vision actually provides, it's still in the typical 40-degree FOV range many binocular users are already used to.
Like a PVS-14, there are onboard IR illuminators for use indoors or where there is otherwise no ambient light for the unit to intensify.
The downsides came with the use of atypical image intensifier tubes, which still matched the typical specifications of the military's needs at the time, but were not as versatile as the ones that would be used in "goggle" units like the PVS-31. When stowed on a helmet, it can also stick out more than units like the PVS-31.
Regardless of its downsides, it's a rare & unique unit that's barely seen any adoption on the civilian market, but has a lot of benefits especially for passive-aimers.
Tube Specifications:
We do not have original spec sheets available for these units.
These units contain generation 3 mil-spec ITT/L3 tubes with signs of use, and the occasional pinhole blem. and while we can't specify an exact FOM, we have tested the resolution between 64-72 Line Pairs Per Millimeter or right about average for an older Gen 3 Green Phosphor tube.
Expect your unit to have Minor pinhole blems in zone 2 and 3.
We are not offering the ability to pick out exactly which tube/pair you want as the differences between the units we have are negligible.
